Additional courses may be delivered on demand.  If the above dates do not suit, contact the club if you have a group of three or more – courses can be run during the week or in a different format (e.g. two non-consecutive days).

For beginning sailors, the Keelboat Start Crewing course of 12 hours will give you the opportunity to become a competent crew with an understanding of how sails work, how to manoeuvre under sail and power (tacking and gybing, reefing sails), how to manage sails using the deck hardware (winches, sheets, halyards, jammers and cleats), safety awareness and an introduction to basic seamanship.

The Helming course gives you the time to develop your helming skills on all points of sail and power and takes your awareness and skills to a higher level.  The Skipper course gives you the opportunity to become competent in taking a crew out on the water in a keelboat and safely managing the crew and boat under all points of sail and power.  An understanding of the rules of the road, crew safety and general seamanship are expected as outcomes in this course.

All courses are of 12 hours duration and group size is restricted to four.  An accredited keelboat instructor will deliver the accredited course and a useful logbook and sailing resource text are provided.  The minimum age is 16, for club insurance cover.

The CCYC training keelboat (BENDIGO) is a Swarbrick 8 metre (S80) – which is a stable but responsive sailboat.

To register, go to the Australia Sailing website and follow the thread from training and development to keelboat courses offered in Yeppoon – Here is a link

Payment is direct to the CCYC - $250 for club members and $350 for non-members.
